Holistic Medicine
Holistic medicine has been around for thousand of years; it’s “the practice that aims to achieve the healing effects of medicine, but which lacks biological plausibility and is untested, untestable or proven ineffective. Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind, and spirit.” Such examples are; the ancient therapy cupping, being used in Egypt over 3,000 years ago; to the beginnings of yoga, which were developed by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in Northern India over 5,000 years ago.
Scientific Medicine
Scientific medicine; must be tested and proven to be affective at a biological level and must get approval from the scientific community and organizations before it can be used in mainstream society. Some examples of scientific medicine are Albuterol; the medicine used to treat or prevent bronchospasm; Vicodin; a popular drug for treating acute or chronic moderate to moderately severe pain. While scientific medicines are proven to be useful and has helped society evolve; it has also increased the number of addictions and overdoses; with this dark side of scientific medicine being widely seen; could this be holistic medicines time to shine?
Americas Pill Addiction
“More than 131 million people — 66 percent of all adults in the United States — use prescription drugs.” With work, the kids, the bills, and the pressures that come with life; it’s made being depressed, stressed, and anxious, too widely accepted as a way of life. The number of new prescriptions among the youth is going up at an alarming rate; researchers see the source of these new patients could be due to them spending less time in nature than they should. If you’re depressed, just take some Zoloft; if you’re stressed; take some adderall; if you’re anxious; take some benzodiazepines; this is obviously NOT good. This addiction to pills is unhealthy and unsustainable; and people need to know; there ARE alternatives.
Nature Therapy
Nature Therapy is one of my favorite holistic medicines; it’s become a habit of mine to be in nature as much as possible; it’s where we evolved; it’s no coincidence that just after five minutes in nature, I feel more relaxed, less stressed, and happier. I’ve owned the Camelbak Mule for over 10 years; it’s a 5 star product; and it continues to help me get out there in nature; I’ll link it here; (https://amzn.to/3bOPmVO.) The smells and sounds of nature are very therapeutic as well; hearing birds chirp, the wind blow, the choppy waves crashing on the shore; these sounds are natural; the sounds of the cities are known to cause more stress and anxiety. A loud plane flying over your head, an obnoxious car exhaust, a young couple next door yelling at each other; breaks squeaking; these all contribute to becoming disconnected. Five hours a week in nature should be the minimum; nature therapy can lower stress levels, lower blood pressure, help balance vitamin deficiencies, and release happy chemicals in your brain among many other things. If there’s only one holistic medicine you pick up; let it be nature therapy.

Yoga
Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices; with the ultimate goal being liberation. Yoga has been steadily growing in popularity; and is one of the top 10 fitness trends of the world! Just in 2013, there were 20 million Americans practicing yoga on the daily; today; that number has more than doubled to 55 million! Some common health benefits you can expect to gain from this alternative medicine are; increased flexibility; cardio and circulatory health; weight reduction; decrease of stress; and many more. If you don’t have a yoga mat already; this is the one I’ve been using for the past couple years and it’s been holding up great! (https://amzn.to/2ATn3Zz) If you’re not sure how to do yoga; simply watch YouTube videos; ask a friend; or join a yoga class because their are some awesome instructors out there!
Cannabis
Cannabis has been around for thousands of years; and is known as humanity’s oldest crop! It’s been used for medical and spiritual practices ever since; and today; it seems as one of the most popular plant based medicines around. Cannabis has been know to fight off depression; add appetite; lessen chronic pain; and completely end seizures. Cannabis comes in many forms and using it comes with options; the most common way to enjoy the benefits is by smoking; but you can also eat edibles; or apply CBD oils to pain points. Here are some of the most popular CBD oils on Amazon; (https://amzn.to/2ATVMWT.) In terms of business opportunities; cannabis is one of the best; this plant is still illegal in many states; so while the opportunities can be challenging in the short term; legalization will inevitably sweep the nation; and the demand to produce quality cannabis for healing should continue to grow.
Conclusion
Holistic and scientific medicines have been helping people for a long time; it’s good that health and wellness is gaining in popularity. While scientific medicines are great; they seem to have gotten too popular among those who struggle with balance and moderation. There are many other holistic medicines out there; such as plants; acupuncture; and spiritual counseling; the list is extensive; and new holistic medicines are being discovered all the time. If you’re wondering how to get off that prescription; how to be healthier in the mind, body, and soul, or whether you’re thinking about pursuing work in the holistic medicine industry; I think it’s never been a better time to experience the benefits of holistic medicine and to show the world what it’s been missing!
